IT Strategy 2026 for family business MUNK Group
The MUNK Group is a leading manufacturer of climbing and rescue equipment with high standards of quality and safety, producing exclusively Made in Germany. The company faces the challenge of adapting its IT infrastructure and organisation to the strong corporate growth of recent years and the demands of the market. mesakumo is supporting MUNK in developing a concrete IT strategy for the coming years, based on the company's goals and values.
Initial situation
The impressive evolution of the former craft business into the MUNK Group is presenting IT with new challenges. Corresponding adjustments to IT processes are right at the top of the agenda. In future, IT is to be more strongly focused on cross-departmental, value-adding processes. Against this background, mesakumo is supporting the MUNK Group in developing a future-proof IT strategy that meets the requirements of the company and its customers, business partners and stakeholders today and in the future.
Solution
mesakumo approaches strategy development with its proven method, the mesakumo Burger. This approach enables a structured and transparent development of the IT strategy in three steps: foundation, core, and conclusion.
To lay the foundation for the IT strategy, mesakumo founders Fabian Kracht and the project team will thoroughly review existing documentation and past IT-related projects at MUNK even before the project officially begins. An implementation-ready strategy can only be developed with a solid understanding of the corporate culture and business processes.
mesakumo is additionally conducting 12 interviews with 34 people from various departments to identify current and future IT challenges and needs. Based on the interview results, five overarching IT strategy goals are formulated within the strategy project team, which represent the vision and guidelines for MUNK's IT.
In terms of content, the goal is to create a robust and future-proof IT infrastructure that meets customer and business requirements, supports growth with existing resources, implements state-of-the-art technologies and working methods, and builds an efficient company-wide IT organisation.
To achieve these goals, many relevant digital initiatives are gathered, prioritised, and incorporated into a roadmap across three workshops with the relevant stakeholders at MUNK. The roadmap illustrates the chronological sequence and dependencies of the IT projects for the period 2024–2026. mesakumo has also outlined an IT architecture that maps the IT system landscape. To elaborate on the core of the strategy, mesakumo is creating profiles for the ten most important IT projects, describing their goals, scope, responsibilities, resources, and milestones.
mesakumo also provides external input on IT-relevant topics such as cyber security and modern, future-proof IT operations, tailored to the needs of medium-sized businesses. mesakumo has positioned itself as a sparring partner on an equal footing.
Result
Following a 12-week project period, mesakumo is handing over the IT strategy document, which contains all relevant information and recommendations for MUNK's IT development. This establishes the roadmap for IT projects for the period 2024-2026 with clear internal responsibilities – for the continued support of customers and business partners, MUNK's growth and innovation, and the further modernisation of the IT infrastructure and workplaces.
„mesakumo impressed us with their professional and structured approach. They understood our IT challenges and needs and developed an IT strategy that fits our company. We value mesakumo as a competent and reliable partner that supports us with external impetus and pragmatic solutions. describes Ferdinand Munk, owner and Managing Director of the MUNK Group, the cooperation.
Outstanding example of rigorous implementation from mesakumo's perspective: Based on the IT strategy document, MUNK produced internal communication materials for the interview participants and a poster for company-wide communication of the new IT strategy within just a few days of project completion. In addition, regular steering committees were scheduled to monitor the progress and success of the individual IT strategy projects.
Furthermore, MUNK commissioned mesakumo to support the implementation of the strategy, which pleases mesakumo founder Fabian Kracht greatly: „If we are permitted to accompany and support the subsequent implementation of the strategy, that is the finest compliment anyone could pay us.“
